187, including 106 children, raped in 3 months: ASK

At least 187 incidents of rape were reported in the first quarter of the year as incidents of sexual offense continued to rise in the country, revealed a report by Ain o Salish Kendra on Saturday. 
As many as 106 of the rape victims were children and at least 38 of the incidents were gang-rape, said the rights body’s quarterly human rights watch report.
At least 19 of the rape victims were killed and two others committed suicide, said the report, which is prepared mainly based on monitoring of newspapers. 
There were 50 other incidents of sexual harassment in which at least two were killed and a woman committed suicide, according to the report. 
At least 46 people were killed in incidents of ‘crossfire’. Police were involved in 19 incidents of the ‘crossfire’ while RAB’s involvement was reported in 16 incidents.
At least 25 people also died in jail during the same time, said the report.
At least 11 were killed and 1,488 were injured in 109 incidents of political conflicts. 
Seven of the deceased were victims of infighting between Awami League and its associate organisations while three were victims of clash between BNP and its front organisations.
At least 295 children were tortured during the first three months of this year and 127 children died following the torture, said the report. 
There were 66 incidents of torture of journalists. 
At least 28 of them were reportedly organised by either law enforcers or the ruling Awami League and its front organisations. 
A dozen journalists faced attacks and were accused in cases over publishing of reports.
At least one journalist was found dead in his apartment in the capital Dhaka.
At least 16 people were killed in mob beating across the country during the same time, the report added.
