‘Missing’ Khulna BNP leader rescued from Cox’s Bazar

Nazrul Islam, a local leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, who had been reportedly missing since March 17, was rescued from Ramu upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Thursday.

Nizamuddin Mollah, superintendent of Khulna police, said that a team of the Dumuria police spotted the BNP leader after tracking his mobile phone and rescued him from Ramu upazila with the help of the Cox’s Bazar police.

A team of Khulna police is on the way to Cox’s Bazar to bring him back, he said.

On March 17, Nazrul Islam, assistant religious affairs secretary of BNP district unit, was reportedly picked up by unidentified persons while he was returning home from Keshabpur area in Jessore after visiting a doctor.

Later, Tanjila Begum, his wife filed a case with the Dumuria police.

Local leaders and activists of the party staged demonstration several times and formed a human chain on Friday demanding that its ‘missing’ leader be traced immediately.
