PM FLIGHT GLITCH Court acquits 11 Biman officials

A court in Dhaka on Wednesday ordered the authorities concerned to file a new case against three Biman Bangladesh Airlines officials on charge of negligence for November 27, 2016 glitches in Boeing 777 Biman flight, carrying the prime minister.
The prime minister was on way to Budapest from Dhaka and plane made an emergency landing at Ashgabat International Airport in Turkmenistan.
The court passed the order after it had acquitted all the 11 Biman officials, accused in a case filed with Airport Police Station on December 20, 2016 on charge of conspiracy, negligence and sabotage acts, in connection with the mechanical glitches in PM’s flight.
Dhaka metropolitan sessions judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah acquitted the 11 officials from the charges accepting final report in the case.
The officials who were acquitted from the case are Biman chief engineer Debesh Chowdhury, chief engineer (quality assurance) SS Siddique, principal engineer (system and maintenance) Billal Hossain, engineers Shamiul Haque, Milon Chandra Bishwas, Lutfar Rahman, Zakir Hossain and SM Rokonuzzaman, technician Siddiqur Rahman, engineer (officer) Nazmul Hoque and junior technician Shah Alam.
On December 7, 2017, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit inspector Mahbubul Alam submitted the final report after investigation. The investigation officer appealed to the court to acquit the 11 accused in the case.
At the same time, he appealed before the court to lodge prosecution case against three of the officials — technician Siddiqur Rahman, engineer (officer) Nazmul Hoque and junior technician Shah Alam — for their negligence that caused the mechanical glitch.
Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah, accepting the investigator’s plea for lodging case against three officials, directed the authorities concerned to lodge the case under section 287 of the Penal Code against the three.
Three probe panels were formed by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh (CAAB) and Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry on 28 November, 2016 to look into the flight trouble.
On December 20, director (engineering and management) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines MM Asaduzzaman filed the case against the national flag carrier officials with the Airport Police Station under the Special Powers Act.
On the following day, the DMP headquarters issued an order to transfer the case to the CTTC unit from Airport Police Station.
