They demanded trial of the responsible police personnel and ruling party’s student leaders who had carried out several attacks on the students agitating at Dhaka University for quota reform.
They also demanded fair investigation into the mayhem carried out at Dhaka University vice-chancellor’s residence, suspecting that such crime was committed to malign the students’ peaceful movement.
In the statement, the teachers mentioned seven-point demand including adequate security at the dormitories.
Dhaka University teachers Gitiara Nasreen, Nehal Karim, Fahmidul Haque, Tanzimuddin Khan, Jahangirnagar University teachers Anu Muhammad, Sharmind Neelormy, Manash Chowdhury, Jagannath University teachers Quazi Arka Rahman, Soumya Sirker, Jessore University of Science and Technology teacher Ovinu Kibria
Islam are among the signatories.
Meanwhile, Asian Human Rights Commission in another statement demanded that the ‘crackdown’ on the protestors must stop immediately.
‘The law-enforcement agencies have allegedly been using vicious force against the protesters. They must also stop attacking student-demonstrators who are peacefully demanding reforms of the existing quota systems in public employment,’ the AHRC statement said.
