BNP briefs foreign diplomats

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Sunday briefed foreign diplomats stationed in Dhaka about the Khulna city election and situation the jailed party chairperson Khaleda Zia has to face.
The meeting held at Khaleda’s Gulshan office in the afternoon discussed about the illnesses of Khaleda Zia and the jail authorities’ hostile behaviour with the relatives of the former prime minister by not allowing them to meet her in jail.
The BNP also informed the diplomats about the administration and police’s partisan role in favour of ruling Awami League mayoral candidate in the Khulna city poll scheduled to be held on Tuesday, the sources said.
The party also told them that its leaders and activists in Khulna were being arrested and threatened by law enforcers, according to a leader attended the meeting.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir read out a written statement describing over all political situation, meeting sources said.
Diplomats of Japan, European Union, Spain, India, Pakistan, UK, USA, Canada, Australia and Norway attended the meeting.
BNP leaders Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Abdul Moyeen Khan and Goyeshwar Chandra Roy among others were present.
