Khaleda’s health deteriorates: Fakhrul

Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday night said that the party’s jailed chairperson Khaleda Zia’s health condition further deteriorated and demanded immediate treatment at a specialised hospital.
At an emergency news briefing at Khaleda’s Gulshan office around 9:00pm, Fakhrul, flanked by the party’s senior leaders, said that Khaleda’s illness was gradually worsening.
He said family members of Khaleda, who met her inside the jail on Monday afternoon, spoke about the party chief’s worsening health condition.
The Supreme Court Appellate Division is scheduled to give order today on hearing of Khaleda’s bail challenged by the Anti-Corruption Commission and the government as the High Court granted her the bail in March.
Fakhrul said Khaleda was now unable to move her left hand due severe cervical spondylosis disease.
He said recommendation file for making arrangements for Khaleda’s treatment at a specialised hospital still pending at the prime minister’s office.
Fakhrul feared that dilly-dally was intended to let Khaleda’s illness worsen further to keep her away from politics.
The secretary general called for immediate step to arrange Khaleda’s treatment at a specialised hospital.
Otherwise, he warned, the government would have to take all responsibility if anything happened to her.
BNP leaders including Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury were present.
