It proves that fair poll not possible under AL govt: BNP

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday claimed that the Khulna city election once again proved that a free
and fair election could never be held under the incumbent government.
The party complained that the Khulna police commissioner had directed for stuffing ballot boxes in favour of the ruling Awami League mayoral candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque about one and half an hour before the voting ended.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the remarks at separate news conferences in Dhaka.
Mirza Fakhrul at a news conference at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office at about 8:30pm said, ‘For this reason, BNP wants reconstitution of the Election Commission, resignation of the government to form a poll-time neutral government, dissolution of current parliament before next election and deployment of army during the election.’
He reiterated the demand for unconditional release of jailed BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a news briefing at the party’s central office at about 4:00pm said the party had come to know from different sources that Khulna ‘police commissioner’ had directed
polling officers to exclusively seal on ballot
papers in favour of boat symbol.
