Poll was free, fair: Quader

The ruling Awami League on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over unofficial victory of its mayoral candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque in the Khulna City Corporation election.
AL general secretary Obaidul Quader, at a press briefing at the party
president’s Dhanmondi office in Dhaka, said, ‘According to unofficial results of the election held on Tuesday, our party’s mayoral candidate bagged a huge number of votes... than that of the BNP mayoral candidate Nazrul Islam Monju.’
‘The election was held in a free and fair manner and the voters cast their votes in favour of our party candidate,’ he said.
The Election Commission also claimed the election to be free and fair, except for three polling centres.
The AL leader refuted the allegations of opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party leaders that the votes were not cast impartially saying that no election observer or media brought out such a complaint.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, called on the BNP leaders to take lessons from the election result.
AL presidium members Matia Chowdhury and Mohammad Abdur Razzaque, advisory council member HT Imam, and central leaders Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Abdur Rahman, Ahmad Hosain, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Rashedul Alam and Biplab Barua, among others, attended the briefing.
