Ministers, secretaries to get Tk 75,000 for mobile set

Ministers, state ministers, deputy ministers and secretaries will now be entitled to an allowance of Tk 75,000 each for purchasing mobile set.
The cabinet on Monday approved the Government Telephone, Cellular, Fax and Internet Policy-2018, updating the policy framed in 2004 that allowed the privileged high-ups to get mobile set worth Tk 15,000 from the state exchequer.
Cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam disclosed the decision of the
cabinet at a briefing at the secretariat after the cabinet meeting.
He said that they would continue to enjoy unlimited talk time facility on mobile.
The cabinet secretary said that the cabinet, however, instructed inclusion of the Supreme Court judges in the policy placed by the public administration ministry in the weekly cabinet meeting chaired by prime minister Sheikh Hasina at her Tejgaon office.
Officials, holding the rank of joint secretary and additional secretary, as per the new policy, would get a monthly allowance of Tk 1500 for using mobile phones, Shafiul said, adding that earlier they used to get Tk 600.
The chief of protocol at the foreign ministry would enjoy roaming facility while using mobile phone, he said.
The cabinet also approved a draft of the Housing and Building Research Institute Bill 2018, which was an updated version of a 1977 ordinance.
‘The new law is being enacted in Bangla with some minor changes as the Housing and Building Research Institute Ordinance 1977 was a martial law proclamation in English and was annulled by the Supreme Court,’ said the cabinet secretary.
