Khaleda now falls sick from insect bites in jail: BNP

Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Wednesday claimed that the party’s imprisoned chairperson Khaleda Zia had fallen sick again, this time from insect bites in her prison cell.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, at a news briefing in the party’s central office in Dhaka, also alleged that Khaleda’s cell in a ‘damp, worn-out, abandoned non-habitable building’ had turned into a hub of diseases.
Rizvi said that on Tuesday Khaleda’s close relatives went to see her at the erstwhile Dhaka Central Jail and found her suffering from severe pain in her neck and her left hand was getting stiff due to continuous pain.
Taking a swipe at the government for not arranging Khaleda’s better treatment in a specialised hospital as demanded repeatedly by her party, Rizvi said that the government was putting her health at risk.
The senior BNP leader also alleged that the jail authority did not pay heed to the advice of the government-appointed physicians either. An orthopaedic bed has not been provided to Khaleda yet and she has not been taken to a specialised hospital for her magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test, he said.
