7 held over threatening MP Ushatan

Police arrested at least seven people on charge of their alleged link with demanding extortion and giving death threat to independent member of parliament from Rangamati constituency Ushatan Talukder.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police arrested the seven people at the national parliament area on Friday evening hours after the lawmaker filed a complaint with the police, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police officer-in-charge GG Biswas told New Age.
He said the arrested are former Rangamati district’s Baghaichari municipality mayor Mohammad Alamgir, Waliur Rahman from Jhikargachha of Jessore, M Razu from Halishahar of Chittagong, Shakhawat Hossain Sohel from Gouripur of Mymensingh, Shimul Hossain from Kotwali of Jessore and Faysal Mahmud Redwan and Mainuddin Shaheen from Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar.
He said the suspects reportedly demanded Tk 5 lakh as tips for Eid and Ifter entering in his office at parliament building on the day.
The people threatened the lawmaker to kill when he refused to give the money, he said.
He also said the police produced the arrested to the court and the court sent them to jail.
New Age, however, failed to communicate with Ushatan Talukder over phone for his comment in this regard.
