Khaleda to be taken to BSMMU for check-up: HM

Home affairs minister Asaduzzaman Khan said on Sunday that the jailed Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia would be brought to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for check-up.
‘The IG prisons [inspector general of prisons] has already been instructed to take BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to BSMMU for check-up,’ he told reporters at the ministry as his attention was drawn to Khaleda’s personal physician’s observation that she had a mild stroke.
Asaduzzaman said that the government was sincere in the medical treatment of the BNP chairperson.
Khaleda, also former prime minister, had a ‘mild stroke’, a personal physician of the BNP leader said on Saturday after visiting her.
Law minister Anisul Huq on another occasion at the ministry on Sunday said that as Khaleda was
fasting, her blood sugar level fell as found by physicians in the jail. ‘The government is aware of her health situation,’ the law minister said.
He also said that Khaleda would be taken to BSMMU to determine if she had a mild stroke.
A four-member delegation of Khaleda’s personal physicians visited her at the old Dhaka Central Jail in the old city Saturday afternoon.
Coming out from the jail after more than one hour and a half, one of them, Dhaka Medical College Hospital medicine department professor FM Siddiqui, told journalists that Khaleda suddenly collapsed from standing position at about noon on June 5 and remained unconscious for five to seven minutes and she could not recall what happened to her at that time.
He said that after checking her, they suspected it as a transient ischemic attack, one form of mild stroke.
The medicine professor said that they recommended immediate admission of Khaleda to a specialised hospital for conducting tests to confirm the matter.
He said that they suggested that Khaleda should be admitted to United Hospital in Dhaka.
Khaleda Zia was jailed for five years in a graft case by a Dhaka special judge’s court on February 8.
