Steps taken to free Buriganga from pollutions: minister

Water resource minister Anwar Hossain Monju on Sunday told the parliament that the government had taken initiative to free Buriganga River from pollution through increasing water flow.
To this end, the minister said, Bangladesh Water Development Board was implementing a project titled ‘Buriganga River recovery (New Dalweshwari-Pungli,-Bongshai-Turag-Buriganga river system) project’ with a cost of Taka 1,125.59 crore.
In a scripted answer, he said, under the project, the water development board would increase 141 cusec water flow of the Buriganga River by bringing 245 cusec water flow from the River Jamuna during the dry season.
