JS body for raising age limit for govt jobs to 35yrs

The parliamentary standing committee on public administration ministry on Wednesday recommended the government to raise the upper age limit for entry into government jobs to 35 years from existing 30 years.
The committee also suggested that the government should set the retirement age for public servants at 65 from existing 59 years.
The retirement age was 57 years before it was raised by the incumbent government in its previous tenure. The government led by Sheikh Hasina approved a proposal in December 2011 allowing public servants to work till the age of 59 while the retirement age for public servants with freedom fighters’ certificate was set at 61.
Jobseekers have been asking the government to raise the upper age limit for entry into government services.
The recommendations were made in a meeting of the committee at parliament secretariat with its chairman HN Ashiqur Rahman in the chair.
Committee members ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, Mustafa Lutfullah, Khorshed Ara Haque and Mohammad Abdullah attended the meeting.
Emerging from the meeting, Lutfullah told reporters that the issue had been pending for a long time. ‘After a long discussion, the committee has unanimously recommended the government to set the upper age of 35 years for entry into government jobs.’
Meeting sources said that the committee considered examples of different countries before making the recommendations.
Developed countries have not set any age limit to utilise their manpower, they said.
The age limit for entry into government jobs in India’s West Bengal has been set at 40 while it is 45 in Sri Lanka, 35 in Indonesia, 35 in Italy and 40 in France, they said.
In many countries, interested people can take up government jobs just before the day of retirement, they said.
