BNP plans to forge nat’l unity to bring down govt: Moudud

Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Moudud Ahmed on Saturday claimed that his party was planning to forge a national unity that would bring down the Awami League-led government.
Addressing a meeting at the National Press Club in Dhaka, the BNP leader said now their key task would be to unite all political parties and forces, except Awami League and its allies, who believe in democracy, fair politics, rule of law, and independence of judiciary.
Jatiya Odhikar Mancha organised the meeting to press for the release of jailed BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and her treatment.
Backtracking on his stance about poll-time government, he stated on Friday that BNP would decide on joining national election under the AL government after observing elections to Sylhet, Barisal and Rajshahi cities scheduled for July 30.
Moudud, also a former law minister, said BNP would put forward appropriate programmes at an appropriate time to forge a national unity to oust the government and then a national election would be held under a non-party government.
‘The process of forming the national unity was going on,’ he said.
BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy also addressed the meeting presided over by Odhikar Mancha president Nipun Roy Chowdhury.
