University student killed in road accident in capital

A university student was killed as a bus ran over him in Mirpur area in Dhaka on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Syed Masud Rana, son of Syed Mohammad Jahangir, and a final year student of bachelor of business administration department of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology.
The accident took place at Eidgah intersection of National Zoo Road in Mirpur around 9:00am while Masud was going to his campus from his house in Darussalam area, he said said BUBT public relations officer Jisan Al Jubair.
Masud sustained severe injuries in his waist and legs as the bus of Dishari Paribahan ran over him after he fell from rickshaw being hit by the bus, Jisan said, adding that he was taken to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation after the accident where duty doctors declared him dead.
Masuds fellow classmates and university students blocked the road for an hour demanding immediate arrest of the bus drivers and helper who escaped after the incident, the PRO said.
Later, they left the street giving a 24-hour ultimatum to the authorities concerned to arrest of the killer driver and helper.
Shah Ali police duty officer subinspector Sirajul Islam said that the victim’s father Syed Mohammad Jahangir filed a case with the police in the afternoon.
The police were conducting drives to arrest the perpetrators.
Earlier, a Jahangirnagar University former student Shariar Sourav, 28, was killed in a road accident in the capital on Sunday as a bus of Bashumati Paribahan hit him near Hotel Radisson Blue around 11:00am.
