Work together for party candidates

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday asked party rank and file to work in a body for party-nominated candidates leaving aside feuds for winning the upcoming 11th general elections.
Hasina, also ruling Awami League president, while addressing the third phase of the party’s special extended meeting, warned that forthcoming election would be much harder than past elections.
‘You must work together for the person whom I will provide party ticket in the election,’ Hasina said at the extended meeting held at Ganabhaban, official residence of the prime minster.
‘I will provide party ticket to people based on their popularity,’ she said.
‘Three surveys have already been done while another is underway. Even I will take opinion from grassroots before nominating someone,’ Hasina said.
She made the comment when Kendua Union AL president Sanju Miah urged Hasina to nominate dedicated and qualified party leaders in the upcoming national polls.
President and general secretaries of the each union level committees of the party and party’s union council chairmen of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Rangpur and Khulna divisions attended the meeting.
More than eight thousand grassroots and party’s central executive committee members attended the meeting.
Awami League also held similar meetings on June 23 and 30.
‘Do not think about the person but think about who is running with Awami League election symbol,’ Hasina told the meeting, adding that next general election would be held in December.
Hasina also instructed party leaders and activists to plead to the people so that they cast their votes for the Awami League candidates once again.
She reminded her workers that the people might forget the current government’s works if they were not reminded of these works repeatedly.
‘You have no scope to be negligent in any constituency. Defeat in a single constituency may damage the scope of forming the government,’ she added.
Referring to her government’s initiative for trial of the war criminals of 1971, prime minister said this process would be stopped if Awami League failed to come to power again.
Hasina warned that If Awami league was not in power poverty rate would increase, literacy rate fall and social safety net programmes suspended.
‘You have to make the organisation stronger to work for the people,’ she said.
Sheikh Hasina said Awami League would take part in the election in alliance with other friendly political parties.
Sheikh Hasina asked them to make the party stronger by increasing its popularity at the grassroots.
‘Awami League is the only party in the country which can change the fate of the people,’ she said.
General secretary of the party Oabaidul Quader in his welcome address warned that they would take immediate action
and expel them who would be rival candidates against the party-nominated candidate.
‘In the past we forgave many but this time we will not forgive anyone who will be rebel candidate,’ Oabaidul Quader, also road, transport and bridges minister, said.
