Hall-Mark chairman Jasmine gets three years jail

The chairman of scandal-hit Hall-Mark Group, Jasmine Islam, has been given three years’ rigorous imprisonment in case filed hiding wealth information to the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-5 judge Md Akhtaruzzaman handed down the jail sentence in presence of Jasmine Islam at the courtroom.

The court also fined her Tk 20 lakh asked authorities concerned to realize the amount in two months.

The ACC had filed a case against Jasmine with Ramna police station on December 12, 2013. Police submitted chargesheet against her on October 22, 2014.

The ACC on November 13, 2013 served a notice on Jasmine, asking her to submit her wealth statement to the commission within seven working days.

The deadline for submitting the statement was extended to December 4 on her appeal on November 24. But the Hall-Mark boss did not comply with the deadline.

Jasmine, wife of Hall-Mark Group managing director Tanvir Mahmud, is also facing charges of misappropriating over Tk 1,568 crore.
