Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said the party’s imprisonsed chairperson Khaleda Zia was not allowed to meet her relatives, political colleagues and lawyers for nearly last 11 days.
He also expressed his fear that the ruling party might have hatching a conspiracy to ‘remove’ Khaleda from the world.
Addressing a news briefing at BNP central office at Nayapaltan in Dhaka, Fakhrul said relatives were allowed to call on Khaleda in prison last time on June 30.
He also criticised the jail authorities by saying that if relatives of BNP chief needed to take permission from the head of the government to meet her in prison, then people should get it that the administrative system in the country had collapsed.
He said by not allowing jailed Khaleda to meet her relatives and friends, the authorities had deprived her of  constitutional and human rights and it was a clear violation of rights.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was sentenced to five years in jail in a graft case on February 8 and sent to old Dhaka Central Jail on Nazimuddin Road in Dhaka.
Fakhrul reiterated the party’s demand for immediate release of Khaleda Zia.
