AL allies for resolving quota problem without delay

Partners of the ruling Awami League-led alliance on Tuesday expressed concern over the situation centering the movement for reform in quota system for public jobs.
The government should resolve the issue without delay, as prime minister Sheikh Hasina declared in parliament that the quote system in the government jobs would be abolished, they said.
The committee formed with cabinet secretary as its head should take immediate decision to resolve the issue, the leaders of the alliance partners said at a meeting of the alliance held at Dhanmandi political office of the Awami League president Sheikh Hasina.
They also proposed that as the quota issue was related with politics so the representation of politicians should be kept in the quota reform committee.
Coming out from the meeting, Workers Party politburo member Quamrul Ahsan told New Age that some leaders of the alliance partners expressed their views that the quote issue should be resolved as early as possible.
Sharif Nurul Ambia, president of the Bangladesh JSD, Bangladesh Jatiya Party secretary general secretary Sheikh Shahidul Islam and Workers Party politburo member Anisur Rahman Mallick expressed their views on the quota issue, Quamrul said.
After the meeting, coordinator of the alliance and presidium member of Awami League, Mohammad Nasim, at a press briefing said that the alliance leaders wanted that the quota committee should take an acceptable decision to resolve the issue.
Three teams comprising central leaders of the alliance would take part in the canvass for AL candidates in three city elections from July 21 to 23.
Moreover, the leaders of the alliance partners would also attend the reception programme of the AL president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina on July 21, at Suhrawardy Udyan.
