Four more suspects killed in ‘gunfights’ in Bangladesh anti-drug drive

At least four more ‘drug peddlers’ were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ in four districts early Saturday, raising the toll to 195 in the nationwide anti-drug drive since May 15.
Of the casualties, one each were killed in gunfights with the police at Kushtia and Dinajpur and one was killed in ‘gunfight’ with the Rapid Action Battalion at Chapainawabganj while one was killed in a gunfight allegedly between two groups of drug peddlers at Cox’s Bazar, according to the police and the RAB.
At least one suspected drug peddler was injured in a gunfight with the police at Lalmonirhat, according to police.
The police’s anti-drug drive began on May 18 and the RAB’s on May 4.
New Age correspondent in Chapainawabganj, quoting RAB-5 deputy company commander in the district Abu Khayer, reported that suspected drug peddler Khairul Islam, 42, of Char Islampur village under Sadar upazila was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with RAB in a mango orchard at village Mollan under Sadar upazila in the district at about 1:30am on Saturday.
The RAB official said that they seized a pistol, one magazine, four bullets and 117 bottles of Phensedyl from the spot. 
Khairul was named in eleven cases including seven under narcotics control act, he said.
In Kushtia, suspected drug peddler Shamsuddin alias Sham, 38, named in eight cases, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Bankapul under Bheramara upazila at about 3:30am, Bharemara police station officer-in-charge Aminul Islam said.
He said that they seized 500 yaba tablets from the spot. 
New Age Correspondent in Cox’s Bazar, quoting Chakoria police station officer-in-charge Baktiar Uddin Chowdhury, reported that suspected drug peddler Md Islamil, 45, of Masterpara of Chakoria municipality who was named in six cases was killed in a gunfight between two groups of drug peddlers at Komari bridge are on Cahkoria-Lama-Alikadam road early Saturday.
The OC said that they seized one gun, two bullets and 465 Yaba tablets from the spot.
Our correspondent in Dinajpur, quoting Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Md Redwanur Rahim, reported that suspected drug peddler Abdur Rahim, 45, of Puratan Bazar Rail Gate in Parbatipur town in the district was killed in gunfight with the police at Bannirghat on Parbatipur-Saidpur Road when police intervened to control clashes between two drug peddler groups at about 3 AM Saturday. 
The OC said that police seized 100 Yaba tablets, 50 bottles of Phenesedyl and a firearm from the spot.
Our Correspondent in Lalmonirhat, quoting Hatibandha Police Station officer-in-charge Omar Faruk, reported that police arrested suspected drug peddler Robiul Islam, 40, of Fikson Sonarpara village under Sadar Upazilla in Bogra as he became injured during gunfight with the police at Singhimari, Hatibandha in the district at about 3.30 AM on Saturday. 
The police officer said that Robiul was wanted in seven cases and that the police seized 25 kilograms of hemp from the spot.
