Heavy rain lashes Ctg city

Heavy rain on Tuesday inundated low-lying areas of Chittagong city, causing huge sufferings to the residents and difficulty to commuters.
The rain started Monday night and continued till Tuesday flooding most of the low-lying areas of Muradpur, Sholoshohor, Chandgaon, Halishahar, Bahadarhat, 2 no Gate, Agrabad, CDA residential area.
Stagnant rain water on different roads caused traffic severe congestions. Commuters, office goers and students were having difficulty in finding transport on Tuesday morning.

According to Patenga Meteorological Department, Chittagong witnessed 90.8 millimetres of rain in last 24 hours. The weather office has also forecast heavy to extremely heavy rains in parts of the country.
Pedestrians found it immensely difficult to move through knee-high water on different roads after the rain. 
Tupa Chowdhury, a resident of Jamal Khan, told New Age that she was waiting for an hour for a rickshaw or CNG to send her daughter to school at the city’s Nasirabad. 
She said once rainy day would come with blessings, but now a rainy day brings curse for the port city dwellers. 
Many of the city houses have been submerged by rain water. In low-lying areas of Sholoshohor and Chadgaon, some people were seen cooking in stove on the bed as the rain water entered their house.
Jamir Ali, a CNG driver of Halishahar area, told New Age, ‘Passengers think we increase fare during rain but with them we also suffer a lot due to waterlogging.’ 
The rainwater caused long traffic tailback in Muradpur-2 no gate area and in most of the areas on Tuesday morning.
Weather forecast said that southwest monsoon was active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay. Light to moderate rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country.
