Bangladesh suffer dramatic loss in 2nd ODI

Bangladesh wasted a very good opportunity to seal their first series win in overseas for nine years when they lost the second one-day international of three-match series against West Indies by three runs in Guyana on Thursday.
Set a target of 272 runs, Bangladesh seemed to be coasting when Mushfiqur Rahim struck a fifty after yet another solid partnership from Tamim Iqbal and Sakib al Hasan.
But the visitors made a mess in the last seven balls when they required only eight runs with six wickets in hand.
Sabbir Rahman, put another question mark on his utility in the team, failing to clear the rope when he attempted for a six in the last ball of penultimate over.
His untimely dismissal for 12 with a catch at deep midwicket made Mushfiq inevitably nervous and it cost the batsman his wicket in the next ball.
West Indies sniffed a chance when Muahfiq made feeble attempt for a six and was caught at deep midwicket off Jason Holder after taking Bangladesh so close with 68 off 67 balls.
Mosaddek Hossain conceded next two balls as dots and then scampered for three runs in two balls to leave skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza in need of hitting a six in the last ball of the innings.
Holder kept his cool as Mashrafee could collect only a single, meaning Bangladesh ended their chase with 268-6, replying to West Indies’ 271-9 in 50 overs.
Shimron Hetmyer's 125 off 93 balls nicely set up West Indies innings but Bangladesh were on top most of the time, thanks to their prolific start.
Anamul Haque were off to a flyer, hitting 23 off nine balls before a 97-run second wicket partnership between Tamim and Sakib gave Bangladesh a good platform.
Tamim and Sakib, who shared 207 runs in 48-run win in the first game, fell for 54 and 56 runs respectively, but another solid partnership between Mushfiq and Mahmudullah put Bangladesh back in control.
Mahmudullah, who was benefited from a drop catch of Chris Gayle on 17, was run out for 39, leaving the onus on Mushfiq, who, unfortunately for Bangladesh could not finish the job.
Earlier, Rubel Hossain took 3-61 for Bangladesh while Sakib al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman claimed two wickets each.
Opting to bowl first, Bangladesh started decently picking up West Indies’ first four wickets for 102 runs, but Hetmyer kept the hosts in the game with his solid batting.
Hetmyer, who hit three fours and seven sixes, received excellent support from Rovman Powell in a 103-run fifth-wicket partnership, with the all-rounder contributing an attacking 44.
With Hetmyer leading the way, they gave the West Indies the initiative and looked set for an all-out assault over the final ten overs when Rubel separated them by bowling Powell in the 43rd over, which triggered a lower-order collapse.
The third and final ODI will be held at Saint Kitts on July 28.
