My resignation no solution: Shajahan

Shipping minister Shajahan Khan on Monday said that his resignation was no solution to traffic accidents as his remarks over deaths of two students in Kurmitola bus accident on Sunday sparked huge criticism on social media and street
protests in Dhaka.
Agitating students blocked Airport and Mirpur roads demanding resignation of shipping minister and protesting at the deaths of two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment School and College as a Jabal-e-Nur Pvt Ltd ploughed through a crowd waiting for transports.
‘Rather I want to tell student friends that as I am in this position, I am able to take effective role in reducing road accidents,’ Shahjahan, also the Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation executive president, told reporters at the ministry.
He said that after any traffic accident many people demanded his resignation.
The minister requested them to prove that all problems would be solved if he resigned and then he was ready to resign.
Stern action would be taken against the perpetrators and the workers who would stage protests, he assured.
He claimed that he was not aware that any of his relatives was involved in Jabal-e-Nur Pvt Ltd.
A meeting of transport company owners and workers is scheduled for today to decide if the route permit of the bus would be cancelled, he added.
Jabal-e-Nur Pvt Ltd chairman Md Zakir Hossain told New Age that the minister was not his relative.
‘As a senior most transport leader I only know him,’ he added.
The minister continued facing fierce backlash from people in different social media as on Sunday he was breaking almost into a giggle facing questions from journalists about the deaths of the two students.
Different groups and individuals made huge posts on social media slamming the minister for his reaction to the accident.
They made different expressions, including ‘People of Bangladesh want to live’, ‘Be aware! No one say anything about Khansenapoti’, ‘Of course! What do you expect? Justice? Immediate action? Hah! Dream on!!!’.
A pregnant woman, who missed flight on Monday due to the demonstrations of the students on Airport road, said on the Facebook account, ‘Ruling party Awami League should be ashamed for having monsters in minister positions...In Solidarity!’
A journalist from Channel i online, who lost her father and maternal uncle in road accidents, said, ‘Currently I don’t want to lose temper. I want to be happy by burying my all anger and agitation. I want to show everyone that how happy I am. Because none gives a damn in the world for my anger.’
