SC extends time to dispose Khaleda’s appeal till Oct 31

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday extended time till October 31 to dispose an appeal filed by Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia in in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

The four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order.

On May 16, the Appellate Division upheld a High Court order that granted four-month bail to Khaleda in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case and also ordered the High Court bench to hear and dispose of her appeal by July 31.

Khaleda’s counsels on July 26 had applied for extending the time to dispose the appeal.

AJ Mohammad Ali, Joynul Abedin and Mahbub Uddin Khokan  were present for Khaleda while attorney general Mahbubey Alam and Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the government and the Anti-Corruption Commission respectively.

Earlier on February 8, the Special Judge's Court-5 of Dhaka sentenced Khaleda to five years' imprisonment in connection with the case filed by the ACC.
