BNP wants Shajahan to resign

Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday demanded resignation of shipping minister Shajahan Khan holding him responsible for chaos in the country’s transport sector.
Fakhrul made the demand in a statement amid the current movement of students over tragic death of two students of Shahid Ramiz Uddin Cantonment School and College in Dhaka in a bus accident on Airport road at Kurmitola on Sunday.
Agitated students placed 9-point demand, including resignation of shipping minister Shajahan, also leader of transport owners and workers.
Fakhrul asked the government to resolve the crisis through discussion with the students.
He demanded exemplary punishment to the responsible bus driver for the death of the two students.
Fakhrul slated the shipping minister for acting irresponsible after hearing the news of death of two school students.
He alleged that anarchy had been prevailing in the transport sector for long time as Shajahan Khan patronised hooliganism and corruption.
He said unskilled, under-aged drivers and unfit vehicles were dominating the road.
Fakhrul said the present government had ‘failed’ to solve the crisis in service sectors, including in transport sector.
The government involved in ‘anti-people’ activities and failed to realise the grievance of people, Fakhrul claimed.
Loss of life of innocent students is also result of ‘misrule’ of the government, he added.
The cruel autocratic character of the government had been exposed through injuring the agitating students by police torture, opening fire on
them, hurting them with tear gas and arresting many of the students, Fakhrul claimed.
