BNP, Jamaat infiltrators attack AL Dhanmandi office: Quader

Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said that BNP and Jamaat activists ‘in disguise’ of schoolchildren attacked AL president’s Dhanmandi-3 office in Dhaka.
Showing two stones, at a briefing at the Dhanmandi-3 office he claimed that ‘trained cadres’ of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the Jamaat-e-Islami using ‘fake ID card and wearing school uniform’ infiltrated the movement of schoolchildren for road safety and carried out the attack.
‘No schoolchildren were involved in the attack,’ he said at the briefing in reaction to the attack that took place after several people were injured as a group of stick-wielding youths in helmets and police attacked the protesting students Jigatola at about 1:30pm.
‘The attackers were political goons who were carrying arms and we heard sounds of firing. It was a planned and politically motivated attack,’ said Obaidul Quader, also road transport and bridges minister.
‘We have proof from social media that they [BNP and Jamaat] are infiltrating the schoolchildren’s movement for road safety aiming bloodshed,’ he claimed.
‘We have seen an audio phone record of BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud asking his loyal to infiltrate the movement,’ he said.
Earlier in the morning at another briefing following a meeting of party secretaries he urged protesting students to go back to classrooms, claiming that some of their demands were already met and the government was working on the rest.
The students continued protests taking over the control of city roads protesting against road transport sector anarchy for the seventh consecutive day on Saturday following the deaths of two of their fellows in a bus accident at Kurmitola on July 29.
‘The people are suffering as no public and private buses are running in Dhaka city. We tried to run BRTC buses in but drivers declined to drive buses,’ Quader said.
He called on AL leaders and activists to motivate the students so that they returned homes. Joint general secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dipu Moni, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, secretaries Habibur Rahman Siraj, Ashim Kumar Ukil, Afsal Husein, Sujit Roy Nandi, among others, attended the meeting.
