Govt telling lies: Fakhrul

Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday alleged that the government was telling lies about the party to ‘thwart’ in a planned way the students’ ongoing peaceful and logical movement for road safety.
He claimed that ‘Awami goons’ carried out attacks on the agitating students at different places including Jigatala and Mirpur in Dhaka and outside the capital on Saturday.
The secretary general at an impromptu news conference at the party’s chairperson’s Gulshan office around 8:30pm said BNP extended support to the just movement of the students.
He said BNP never instigated anyone to be involved in any terror activities rather the government and the ruling party goons carried out the attacks on the innocent students on Saturday.
The termed it a continuation of the recent attacks on quota reform student demonstrators.
Fakhrul strongly condemned Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader’s comment branding the students’ movement totally differently in a bid to thwart the movement.
He said they came to know from students that without any provocation helmeted Chhatra League and Juba League ‘goons’, equipped with fire arms and various lethal weapons from Awami League’s office at Dhanmondi, swooped on the agitated students and fired shots repeatedly.
Fakhrul condemned the attacks.
BNP leaders including Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amanullah Aman, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Syed Emran Saleh Prince, Fazlul Hoq Milon, Shama Obaed, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, Nazimuddin Alam, Belal Ahmed and Shahidul Islam Babul were present.
