Police fire teargas shells to disperse protesting students
Protesting students took to streets at different points in the capital for the straight eight day on Sunday demanding justice and safe roads.
Several thousand university students on Sunday blocked Shahbagh intersection protesting at Saturday' s attacks on school and college students in Jigatala during their demonstrations demanding safe roads.
Students of Dhaka University, Dhaka Medical College and Hospital and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology started gathering at the intersection around11:00am and blocked the road, disrupting vehicular movement.
When a procession of the students reached Jigatala, police fired teargas shells to disperse the protesting students around 1:00pm, reports our correspondent.

Police again fired tear gas shells to disperse the students at Elephant Road and Dhanmondi -1 around 2:15 pm.
Students also took position in Uttara, Rampura, Motijheel, Bananni, Kuril, Science Lab intersection, Mirpur areas like the previous days as part of their protest demanding safe roads.

They are also controlling traffic and maintaining emergency lane for ambulance and other patient-carrying vehicles and stopped vehicles keeping space at zebra crossings to allow people to cross the road without hindrance.
The students, who were managing the traffic at Jigatala intersection and Mirpur in the capital, came under attack on Saturday which left an unspecified number of students injured.
The student movement sparked off after Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of the college section of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College, were killed after a ‘Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan’ bus ploughed through some their fellows in front of Kurmitola General Hospital on Airport Road in the capital on July 29.
The protesters raised nine-point demands, including justice for the deceased, apology of shipping minister Shajahan Khan and safe roads.
