Bus operators resume service today

Road transport operators Sunday night decided to resume operation of long-route and city service buses across the country from today.
They made the decision after the senior government officials assured them of safety on roads, they said.
Since Thursday, owners and workers stopped running buses all over the country, protesting at vandalism of their vehicles amid ongoing student protest.
Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association secretary general Khandakar Enayet Ullah told New Age that all buses would resume operation Monday morning.
Bangladesh Bus Owners Association vice-president Ramesh Chandra Ghosh said both prime minister Sheikh Hasina and education minister Nurul Islam Nahid assured on Sunday that students would go back to their institutions from Monday.
‘We both owners and workers cannot but run buses as we have to earn livelihood,’ he said, warning that if vandalism continued, buses would not run.
The date for sale of advance tickets for Eid journey would be declared within a day or two, he added.
