Female journalist hacked to death in Pabna

Assailants hacked to death a female journalist at her rented house in Pabna on Tuesday night, sparking protests.
Police said they launched investigation into the killing of Subarna Nodi, 32, the editor and publisher of Daily Jagroto Bangla and district correspondent of private television channel Anando TV.
Her killing sparked protests across the country, with journalists demanding immediate arrest and trial of the attackers.
Police are not clear about the motive of the killing but suspect it may have link to her personal life and a dispute over her relations with Rajib Hossain, son of Shimla Diagnostic Centre owner Abul Hossain in the town.
Her colleagues said she married Rajib years ago and there was tension over their divorce.
As journalists held demonstrations, police arrested the Rajib’s father Abul Hossain.
Witnesses said the incident took place about 10:00pm.
Pabna additional police superintendent Goutam Kumer Biswas said they were investigating the incident as police had no lead regarding the motive behind the murder.
‘Some unidentified men rang the doorbell. They fled after hacking her indiscriminately when she opened the door,’ Pabna additional superintendent of police Ibne Mizan told media.
He said the journalist died on the way when local people were taking her to a hospital.
Pabna police station officer-in-charge Obaidul Haque said a case was lodged with his police station against three people along with some unidentified people.
On Wednesday, Pabna journalists organised a human chain in front of Pabna Press Club, where Afzal Hossain, news editor of Anando TV, was among the participants.
Journalists in different districts also held human chains condemning the killing and demanding immediate arrest and trial of the murderers.
Journalist Nadia Sharmeen said they would hold a human chain at National Press Club about 11:00am under the banner of Bangladesh Nari Sangbadik Kendra protesting at the killing.
A mother of a nine-year-old girl, Subarna Nodi was a daughter of Ayub Hossain at Randhanagar in Pabna town.
Family members said she would be buried at Balihalot graveyard after Namaz-e-Janaza at Pabna Edward College field.
