Ctg BNP vows to free Khaleda

Bangladesh Nationalist Party leaders on Saturday demanded immediate release of the party’s chairperson Khaleda Zia and criticised the recent decision of the government to use electronic voting machine in the upcoming national elections.
BNP Chittagong city unit and its associate bodies arranged different programmes to celebrate the party’s 40th founding anniversary.
The daylong programmes started with hoisting national flag and party flag at 6:00am at Chittagong BNP party office at the city’s Kazir Dewri.
Addressing a public on the occasion at the party office in the afternoon, BNP central committee vice-chairman and former minister Abdullah Al Noman said that Awami League was trying to use EVM in the next general election for vote rigging.
‘President Ziaur Rahman formed BNP in 1978. Now it is a gigantic political party of Bangladesh. But, the ruling government does not allow us to organise any gathering or meeting or rally,’ he said.
‘We want election but we are not sure whether AL wants it or not. Even citizens are doubtful about the next general election. BNP will not take part in the next election if the government does not release Khaleda,’ he added.
BNP central committee vice-chairman Mir Nasir said that there would be a revolution for the release of BNP chairperson.
‘AL will not be able to stop it. The government will not be able to destroy BNP. The revolution will start from Chittagong,’ he said.
BNP central committee member Shamsul Alam said, ‘In this tough situation, today’s successful gathering proves that the people of Chittagong love BNP.’
Chittagong BNP president Shahadat Hossain presided over the meeting.
He said that they would organise a self-arrest programme demanding release of the party’s chairperson.
BNP central organising secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, vice-presidents MA Aziz and Mohammad Mia Bhola, Professor Nurul Alam Razu, joint secretary Yasin Chowdhury Liton, organising secretary Shihab Uddin, assistant general secretary Shamsul Alam, office secretary Idris Ali, cultural secretary Ali Azam, city Swechchhasebak Dal president HM Ershad Khan, Bandar Thana BNP president Haji Hanif Showdagar and Gosaildanga BNP president Humayun Kabir Sohel attended the programme among others.
