EVM in general polls depends on political opinion: CEC

The chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Monday said the electronic voting machines would be used in next general elections based on opinion of the political parties, law reformation and EC's capacity.

Inaugurating a two-day long training for EC officials on EVM use at Election Training Institute in the capital, the CEC said that EC was now preparing to introduce the electronic voting system in the next polls.

The EC would use EVM in the 11th parliamentary elections as per its capacity if the bill on use of EVM was passed in Parliament, he said.

Earlier, on Sunday, replying to a question on using electronic voting machine in the next polls, Prime minister Sheikh Hasina supported experimental uses of EVM in the next general elections.
Addressing a press conference at Ganabhaban after returning from Nepal where she attended the 4th BIMSTEC Summit on August 30 and 31, she said the system was modern and used in different countries.
