22nd JS session begins, another session in October

The 22nd session of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad began Sunday and it would continue until September 20 while the next session would be convened in October.
Before the beginning of the day’s business at 5:00pm with speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair, the Business Advisory Committee made the decision.
The committee also decided that the sitting would be held at 5:00pm every day.
Committee members Sheikh Hasina, also the house and the prime minister, deputy speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah, Raushan Ershad and Hussein Muhammd Ershad of the Jatiya Party, Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Abul Hasnat Abdullah, ASM Feroz and Anisul Huq of the Awami League, Rashed Khan Menon of the Workers Party of Bangladesh and Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal of the Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtanrik Dal attended the meeting.
At the beginning of the sitting, the speaker nominated Imran Ahmed, MA Tajul Islam, Mahbub ul Alam Hanif, Fakhrul Imam and Nurjahan Begum as members of panel of chairmen to preside over the sittings in absence of the speaker and the deputy speaker.
The parliament adopted obituary references at the death of distinguished personalities, including treasury bench lawmaker SM Mostafa Rashidi Suja on July 26 and opposition Jatiya Party lawmaker Tajul Islam Chowdhury on August 13.
As per the practice, the speaker adjourned the sitting after the adoption of the obituary reference for the death of sitting lawmakers.
Sheikh Hasina, Raushan Ershad, Amir Hossain Amu, ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, Tofail Ahmed, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Kazi Feroz Rashid, Mohammad Nasim, Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Monirul Islam, Abdus Salam Murshedi, Fakhrul Imam, Mir Shawkat Ali Badsha and Nurul Islam Omar spoke on the motion.
The parliament also adopted obituary references at the death of former Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpeyee, former United Nations secretary general Kofi Annan, former lawmaker Kalparanjan Chakma, former state minister Mozaffar Hossain, former lawmakers freedom fighter Sharif Khasruzzaman, Abdur Rouf Miah, freedom fighter Fazle Elahi, Alfaz Uddin, Abdul Mannan Mandal and Anwara Habib.
Another obituary references were also adopted at the death of Samakal editor Golam Sarwar, Sunamganj municipal mayor Ayub Bakt Jaglul, Financial Express editor AHM Moazzem Hossain, US senator John McCain, Language Movement activist Halima Khatun, Language Movement hero Abdul Baten, Independence Award winner dance artist Bazlar Rahman Badal, Daily Observer executive editor Anis Ahmed, freedom fighter and writer major (rtd) Kamrul Hasan Bhuiyan, writer Rama Chowdhury, former Dhaka Reporters Unity former president Mostak Hossain and Lt Commander Ashraf Siddiqui,
The parliament also expressed deep shock at the flood in Kerala, earthquake in Indonesia and at the deaths of people who lost their lives in different accidents in the past two months.
Later, a one-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the memory of the deceased. A prayer was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls.
