EC to train DCs, UNOs, magistrates before declaring election schedule

The Election Commission is planning to organize a two-day training on electoral laws and system for the deputy commissioners, upazila nirbahi officers, judicial and executive magistrates and the EC’s field level officers before declaring the schedule of the general election.
The EC already asked its election management department to organize the training, EC officials told New Age.
They said that officials would be trained about how to enforce the electoral laws as well as the Representation of the People Order, Election Management Rules, Electoral Code of Conduct and the Delimitation of Constituencies Ordinance.
They said that after the polls schedule was declared, returning officers would be selected from among the officers who would attend the training.
On Tuesday, the EC decided to set up 40,199 polling stations with 2,06,540 booths for the coming general election up from 37,707 polling stations with 1,89,078 booths in last general election, they said.
They said that 6,015 polling stations will be setup in the Dhaka region, the highest for any region.

In the Faridpur region , they said, 2,074 polling stations would be set up, the lowest for any region.
The EC divided the country into 10 electoral regions, the other regions include, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Comilla and Chittagong.
The EC has plans to declare the election schedule in the first week of November, said officials.
The polls would be held in the last week of December, they said.
