Jatiya Oikya Prokriya was trying to unite others for the same demand.
From the ground of similar demand NDP would join the movement of the platform as a party of the BNP-led alliance.
Democratic League general secretary Saifuddin Ahmed Manik said that BNP’s joining the movement meant that Democratic League also joined it.
He said that they would unite first to ensure fall of the government to ensure the relief of the people from Awami League’s autocratic rule and then they would discuss about sharing of seats in the elections and other things.
Bangladesh Labour Party chairman Mustafizur Rahman Iran said that his party welcomed the move for the greater national unity as the main demand of his party and the new platform was to ensure a non-party election-time government.
Bangladesh National Awami Party secretary general Golam Mustafa Bhuyan said that BNP’s participation and its participation in the movement was the same as the issue was discussed at a meeting of the alliance.
BNP along with its allies, including Bangladesh Jatiya Party, Jatiya Party (Zafar), National People’s Party, Jatiya Ganatantrik Party, Jamiat Ulama e Islam Bangladesh and Khilafat Majlis joined the rally on Saturday.
From the rally, much talked-about ‘Greater National Unity’ started journey asking the government to form a polls-time neutral government by September 30 through discussion with political parties for creating an atmosphere for a free, fair and neutral general election.
The other demands adopted by citizen rally, attended by top leaders of the political parties, are reconstitution of a neutral Election Commission by the deadline and dissolution of the parliament before announcement of the schedule of the 11th parliamentary polls likely to be held in December.
