BNP to announce next course of action from Sept 29 rally: Fakhrul

Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said the party’s future course of actions would be disclosed in its rally in Dhaka on September 29.
Addressing a news briefing at BNP central office, Fakhrul said the party’s policy-oriented statement would be delivered from the planned rally at Suhrawardy Udyan at 2:00pm.
Responding to a question why BNP had shifted its rally to September 29, Fakhrul said they fixed September 27, but police said that would not be wise to hold the rally on working day and suggested that they should hold the rally on the weekend at Suhrawardy Udyan.
Later BNP leaders discussed about the public suffering and decided to hold the rally on September 29, he added.
Fakhrul said they had learnt that AL led ruling alliance was going to hold another rally at Mohanagar Natyamancha on the same day.
Ruling out any possibility of getting into confrontation between BNP and Awami League activists, Fakhurl said venue (of AL rally) was far away from Suhrawardy Udyan and there was no chance of conflict.
He also said that earlier on the day BNP leaders held a meeting on preparations for the rally.
Fakhrul also lambasted AL leaders Mohammad Nasim and Jahangir Kabir Nanok for their speeches where they called on the activists of AL-led ruling alliance to obstacle the BNP rally.
The BNP leader said Awami League leaders should not use such languages in democracy.
About prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent comment in New York that she opted for a inclusive election, Fakhrul said the prime minister said she wanted an inclusive election, but in fact she had been creating an atmosphere where a free and fair election would not be possible and the prime minister was not committed to holding an inclusive election.
Filing cases against three lakh activists of the main opposition, confining the chairperson of the largest political party in jail, trying to punish BNP’s acting chairman in a baseless case, and reactivating ‘false’ cases against the senior leaders of BNP were some of the incidents that proved that she was not committed for a fair election, Fakhrul said.
Leaders of BNP and its front organisations including Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, Abdus Salam Azad, Taiful Islam Tipu, Munir Hossain, Anwar Hossain, Abdul Malek, Abul Kalam Azad and Abdus Satter Patuary were present.
