BNP allies positive about Jatiya Oikya Front

Parties in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance are positive about the new alliance Jatiya Oikya Front launched on Saturday ahead of the 11th parliamentary elections due by January 28, 2019.
Leaders of the BNP-led alliance while talking to New Age on Sunday welcomed the Jatiya Oikya Front, but some of them said they would need to observe its future activities.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party, the Jatiya Oikya Prakriya and Jukta Front members Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal faction led by ASM Abdur Rob and Nagarik Oikya launched the Jatiya Oikya Front at a press conference on Saturday.
Jatiya Oikya Front announced 7-point demands, including resignation of the government, dissolution of parliament and formation of polls-time neutral government through discussion with all political parties and release of the jailed BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and all political prisoners.
It also announced 11-point goals, including formation of and exploitation-free welfare state putting an end to autocratic ruling system for building up a Bangladesh based on spirit of struggle for independence.
Bangladesh Muslim League president AHM Kamruzzaman said that his party was positive about the Jatiya Oikya Front.
Bangladesh National Awami Party secretary general Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan said, ‘Apparently it is BNP’s victory, but we have to wait how long this victory sustains.’
He said that Kamal Hossain, also the Gana Forum president, was in the front line in the past movement against allegation of corruption of ‘Hawa Bhaban’, acting BNP chairman Tarique Rahman’s political office before and after 2001 general elections.
Khelafat Majlish secretary general Ahmed Abdul Kader said that his party generally welcomed any alliance.
He said that they would need to know what would be the nature of the new alliance and what would be the relation with BNP-led alliance and the Jatiya Oikya Front.
Liberal Democratic Party joint secretary general Shahdat Hossain Selim said that they welcomed the new alliance.
Democratic League general secretary Saifuddin Ahmed Moni said that the party was happy with the formation of the Jatiya Oikya Front for holding the election under a neutral government.
