Unite, victory is inevitable: Dr Kamal

Dr Kamal Hossain, top leader of newly formed opposition alliance Jatiya Oikya Front and president of Gono Forum, on Wednesday urged people to be united to re-establish democracy in the country.
He said the JOF set seven-point demand for restoring what he called lost democracy and rights of people in the country.
‘We all have to be united and join the movement for restoring the people’s rights. Be united, our victory is inevitable,’ Kamal made the call while addressing the first public rally of the alliance at Registrar Ground in Sylhet on Tuesday afternoon.
As chief guest of the programme, he launched the Front’s campaign for a free, fair and neutral election under a non-party neutral government.
The demands of the alliance include resignation of the government, dissolution of parliament, formation of poll-time neutral government through discussion with all political parties, and release of all political prisoners including BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Stating that people were the owner of the independent country in accordance with the constitution, Kamal said in the rally that the founding president of the country Bangabandhu also had said that people were the owner of independent Bangladesh.
‘We have to restore our ownership through united movement. We do not want to remain as subjects of the dictator anymore,’ Kamal, also one of the main authors of the country’s constitution, claimed.
‘We want to become the owner of the country again. We want to bring the state under our control,’ he reiterated.
Criticising the incumbent government’s claim of development, Kamal said that development of a few was not the actual development of a country. The JOF wants development of 16 crore people of the country, he stated.
He urged people to remain with the JOF to re-establish people’s rights to a free, fair and neutral election.
Addressing the rally as main speaker, Bangladesh Nationalist Party general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the government to resign before declaring schedule of the next general election.
He said the government would be ousted through peaceful movement to reinstate democracy in the country.
‘Resign before declaring the polls schedule. Hold the election under a neutral government. Use of EVM will not be allowed and digital stealing will not be allowed. Army has to be deployed in the election,’ demanded the BNP secretary general.
He said that a historic journey towards democracy started from Sylhet on Wednesday that would conclude through realising the seven points.
