Decision on polls deferral Monday, says CEC

The chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Sunday said the commission will sit in a meeting on Monday and decide whether the election date for 11th parliamentary polls would be deferred or not.

He said this while talking to reporters at the commission in the afternoon.

Earlier on the day, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party formally sent a letter to the commission seeking deferment of the 11the parliamentary elections by one month.

BNP, on behalf of 20-party alliance and Jatiya Okiya Front, submitted the letter, signed by BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, to the Election Commission on Sunday.

Bijan Kanti Sarkar, a member on the BNP chief’s advisory council, handed over the letter.

The Jatiya Oikya Front announced to participate in the upcoming 11th parliamentary elections as part of its movement to restore democracy.
