Khaleda’ appeals against rejection of her writ petitions challenging cancellation of nomination papers not in cause list

Former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday appealed in the Appellate Division against rejection of her writ petitions challenging cancellation of her nomination papers for three Parliament seats.
Her appeals were not in the day’s cause list of Appellate Division’s vacation chamber judge though it was the last sitting of the court before the general election.
In her appeals, Khaleda sought stay on HC orders rejecting her writ petitions and challenged the legality of rejecting all the three writ petitions she had filed.
The Appellate Division’s same vacation chamber judge, Justice Nuruzzaman in separate orders upheld the High Court Division’s order that had rejected nomination papers of 14 BNP candidates— Khandaker Abu Ashfaq for Dhaka-1, Tamiz Uddin for Dhaka 20, Faridul Kabir Talukdar for Jamalpur 4, Fazlur Rahman for Jaipurhat 1, Abdul Majid for Jhenidah 2, Bashirullah Jharu for Brahmanbaria 3, Moslem Uddin for Brahmanbaria 4, Nadim Mostafa for Rajshahi 5, Abu Sayeed Chowdhury for Rajshahi 6, Abdul Saleaque Chowdhury for Naogaon 1, SA Jinnah Kabir for Manikganj 1, Syed Jahangir Alam for Dinajpur 3, Amjad Hossain for Syedpur 4 and Abdul Hannan for Chandpur 4.
The same chamber judge also upheld rejection of the nomination papers of two ruling Awami League rebel candidates — Mahmud Hasan Suman for Mymensingh 8 and Md Asaduzzaman for Rangpur 1 by the High Court.
On Monday the High Court Division summarily rejected a writ petition challenging legality of acceptance of nomination papers of Awami League candidate for Sylhet 5 Hafiz Ahmed Mojumder.
An HC vacation bench set Wednesday for hearing a writ petition filed by Jatiya Oikya Front candidate for Dhaka 17, Andaleeve Rahman challenging legality of the EC accepting nomination papers of AL candidate for Dhaka 17 Akbar Hossain Pathan popularly known as Dhaka film hero Farooque though he defaulted on repayment of Tk 36 crore according the affidavit he submitted to EC.
The petitioner’s lawyer Ruhul Quddus submitted in the hearing that the Bangladesh Bank suppressed the information about the defaulted bank loan of the ruling AL candidate.
Earlier, the Appellate Division upheld the High Court’s orders rejecting nomination papers of five BNP candidates Afroza Khan Rita for Manikganj-2, Tahsina Rushdir Luna for Sylhet 2, M Rashiduzzaman Millat for Jamalpur 1, Md Ali Asghar for Mymensingh 1 and Golam Rabbani for Rangpur 5.
