Fire at JOF headquarters building

A fire broke out at Zaman Tower at Purana Paltan in Dhaka that houses the headquarters of opposition political alliance Jatiya Oikya Front on Friday afternoon.

Fire service said they were informed of the fire at around 2:45pm. Eight firefighting units are working for dousing the flames, said Russell Sikder, duty officer at Fire Service headquarters.

The fire originated on the eighth floor of the multi-storied building, he said.

Oikya Front’s office is on the third floor of the building.

‘We fear it is an act of sabotage to impede our works before the national election,’ said Latiful Bari Hamim, Oikya Front’s media wing member told United News of Bangladesh.

The accident takes place a day ahead of the general election in which the Oikya Front is a major runner.

Bangladesh goes in 11th parliamentary elections on December 30.
