Election to be held in festive mood: CEC

The chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Friday said that December 30 general election will be held in a festive mood.
The CEC came up with the remark while visiting the media booth at the result announcement centre of Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital.
He also urged the members of law enforcement agencies to create a congenial environment so that all can cast their votes according to their choice.
‘I urge the members of law enforcement agencies to ensure security so that minority people can go to the voting centres, cast their votes and return home safely,’ he said.
He also said that the claims of Jatiya Oikya Front and Bangladesh Nationalist Party about the polls would be proved wrong as the EC was intent on holding the polls with absolute neutrality.
Replying to a question about the fear of opposition parties of obstructing voters from casting their ballots, the CEC said, ‘We are ready to prove them wrong. The voters will cast their votes in a festive environment.’
Military troops deployed on December 24 have started patrolling different areas of the country including Dhaka to aid the law enforcement agencies and maintain the law and order ahead of the December 30 general election, and to ensure safety of the electorate on the election day.
