JOF to submit memo to EC today

Opposition alliance Jatiya Oikya Front’s spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday sent a letter to Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda informing him that the front-nominated candidates in the 11th parliamentary polls would go to the commission for submitting a memorandum today.
In the letter, Fakhrul mentioned that the memo contained issues including irregularities, massive rigging in December 30 elections, arrest of candidates and cancellation of candidature, filing cases and arrest and violence by the ruling Awami League.
The JOF candidates would go to the commission at 3:00 pm.
Fakhrul has urged the candidates, who contested the December 30 parliamentary polls with Sheaf of Paddy, to remain present at jailed former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office by 12 noon today for submission of memorandum to Election Commission demanding re-election.
The candidates of the JOF comprising the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Gono Forum, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal faction, Nagorik Oikya and Krishak Sramik Janata League, and BNP-led 20 party alliance contested in the latest parliamentary polls with BNP’s electoral symbol Sheaf of Paddy.
BNP chairperson’s adviser Abdus Salam, who contested in the polls in Dhaka-13 seat, told New Age on Wednesday that Mirza Fakhrul, also BNP secretary general, urged him to appear at the party’s imprisoned chairperson Khaleda’s Gulshan office today.
He said they would discuss about submission of the memorandum to the Election Commission.
Gono Forum executive president Subrata Chowdhury, who contested in the polls in Dhaka-6 constituency, said he was urged to present at the Gulshan office.
On December 30, hours after the national poll, the JOF asked the Election Commission to hold re-election under a non-party government as soon as possible cancelling the 11th parliamentary polls.
The opposition alliance rejected the results of the 11th parliamentary polls.
BNP got five seats while its ally Gono Forum secured two seats in the polls tainted by fraud and flaws.
