JATRABARI ARSON ATTACK: Charges pressed against Anwar, Rafiqul, 56 others

Charges were pressed against 58 people, including Bangladesh Nationalist party standing committee members MK Anwar and Rafiqul Islam Miah on Wednesday in a case filed for firebomb attack on a bus at Jatrabari in the capital on January 23.
Sub-inspector Muraduzzman, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted two charge sheets – one under the Explosive Substances Act and the other under the Penal Code ­– with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court against the 58 BNP leaders and activists.
General recording office sub-inspector Ujir Ali said that the charge sheets would be placed before the court on August 2.
The investigation officer also filed a petition to the court for discharging 16 other accused saying that the charges brought against them were not proved during investigation.
The 58 accused also include BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s advisers Khandker Mahbub Hossain, also Supreme Court Bar Association president and journalist Shawkat Mahmud and BNP leaders Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Amanullah Aman, Barkatullah Bulu, Selima Rahman, Serin Sultana, Maruf Kamal Khan, Shimul Biswas, Mir Sharafat Ali Sapu, Azizul Bari Helal, Salauddin Ahmed and Nabiullah Nabi.
