BNP to reconstitute front organisations by April

The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party as part of its plan to revamp the party to overcome its debacle in the December 30 parliamentary elections, marred by flaws and fraud, has initiated a move to reconstitution three fornt organisations.
The party asked its farmer wing Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal, weaver wing Jatiyatabadi Tati Dal, and pro-BNP doctors’ platform Doctors Association of Bangladesh to reconstitute their central committee by April.
The tenure of the central committees of the three organisations expired at least 12 years ago.
BNP set the two key post-election tasks — rehabilitating party leaders and activists who became victims to political persecutions and reorganising the party — to overcome the aftermath of the 11th parliamentary polls, allegedly marked by political persecution of the opposition leaders and activists, widespread vote rigging and irregularities.
On January 19, BNP standing committee members Moudud Ahmed and Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain at a discussion in Dhaka said that the party should adopt two key tasks of rehabilitating the party leaders and activists across the country who became victims to various political persecutions centring the parliamentary polls and reorganising the party to bring new competent and dedicated leaderships.
Party leaders said that the move came following an instruction given by acting BNP chairman Tarique Rahman, who often talked to the leaders of the party and front and associate organisations videoconferencing from London.
Krishak Dal joint secretary Taqdir Hossain Jasim told New Age on February 5 that they took the move to revamp the organisation after talking to Tarique, who asked them to form new central committee in three months.
He said that Krishak Dal central committee meeting on January 31 decided to start divisional organisational tour soon.
He said that Krishak Dal wanted to hold national council session in April.
The last national council session of Krishak Dal was held in 1998 and no new committee was been formed in the past 20 years.
Doctors Association of Bangladesh immediate-past secretary general AZM Zahid Hossain said that 161-member convening committee of the organisation headed by BNP chairperson’s advisory council member Farhad Halim Donar was formed on February 3 dissolving the previous committee to form a new committee in three months.
Obaidul Kabir Khan was made member-secretary and Mohiuddin Bhuiyan Masum was made treasurer of the convening committee.
Zahid, also BNP vice-chairman, said that the latest national council session of the organisation was held in 2005 as the tenure of the central committee was two years.
Tatidal general secretary Abul Kalam Azad said that Tarique talked to them in the last week of January.
He said that Tatidal held a meeting on Wednesday to reorganise the party organisation.
He said that they wanted new leadership from inside the organisation.
Tarique also talked to leaders of the party’s fishermen wing Matshajibi Dal and pro-BNP engineers’ platform Association of Engineers Bangladesh, said a BNP joint secretary general.
New committees of the Matshajibi Dal and AEB would also be formed in two to three months, he said.
