Govt continues character assassination: Khaleda

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson, Khaleda Zia, on Friday said that the government continued to file false cases against BNP leaders and activists aiming at character assassination.
In a statement, signed by BNP spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon, she said, ‘BNP had neither done politics of terrorism nor sheltered terrorists.’
She said, ‘The government’s fascist and undemocratic activities have reached such a level that the people are now being suffocated.’
Khaleda said that the government was no way an elected one and that was why the government took the desperate way of oppressing BNP leaders and activists to cling to ‘illegal power.’
Khaleda demanded release of BNP leaders and activists including standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, joint secretaries general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Amanullah Aman, Mizanur Rahman Minu, vice-chairman Abdus Salam Pintu, suspended Sylhet city mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and Chhatra Dal president Rajib Ahsan.
She also demanded not to obstruct political activities of opposition parties and stopping repression.
