Educational institutions to remain closed till April 9

The government on Tuesday extended the closure of all educational institutions and coaching centres across the country till April 9 to contain the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Sangshad Television will broadcast class lessons for Class VI to Class X between 9:00am and 9:000pm every day from March 28 on, said a press release signed by the education ministry public relations officer M Abul Khair.

The decisions were taken at a meeting chaired by education minister Dipu Moni at the ministry.

On March 16, the government announced the closure of all educational institutions and coaching centres till March 31 and asked all students to stay at home amid the pandemic.

In Tuesday’s meeting, Dipu Moni said that

the decision would be applicable to all education institutions from the pre-primary level to the tertiary level.

She also said that the students must stay at home and follow the directives of the health ministry.

The minister also said that they had taken the decision after discussing with primary and mass education minister M Zakir Hossain.

Deputy minister for education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Secondary and Higher Education Division secretary Mahbub Hossain and Technical and Madrasah Education Division secretary Munshi Shahabuddin Ahmed were also present at the meeting among others.

On Sunday, the authorities also suspended this year’s upcoming Higher Secondary School Certificate and equivalent examinations.

Bangladesh Public Service Commission in a statement also postponed all its examinations between March 18 and March 31.
