The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday alleged that the government was taking the country towards a serious dangerous situation of COVID-19 infection by relaxing the countrywide lockdown.

The party secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, addressing a press conference at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office in Dhaka in the afternoon said that the BNP and its front organisations had distributed relief materials to 31.27 lakh families until May 17 and a total of 1.25 crore people were benefited with the relief.

The BNP leader said that the country was going to witness super cyclone Amphan alongside the catastrophe of COVID-19 infection and urged his party leaders and activists to stand by the Amphan victims as soon as possible.

He urged the administration to take preparations to lessen loss of people’s lives and properties.

Responding to a question on his meeting with the party chairperson Khaleda Zia on May 11, he said that he met Khaleda as she called him.

He said that Khaleda was mentally better as she was at home but her health condition was not good as she was not able to get needed treatment due to the shutdown condition.

The BNP leader said that reopening markets and restaurants was contradictory to the concept of social distancing as such situation invite people to come to roads.
