Poll: Trump, Clinton lead the way in Michigan
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are each once again poised for another sweeping primary win this week in Michigan, according to a poll released Sunday.
Trump nearly doubles Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, his closest rival in the race, with 41% of support in the primary compared to Cruz's 22%. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio garnered 17% support and Ohio Gov. John Kasich is last with 13%, according to the NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll.
Clinton tops rival Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders 57% to 40% in the survey.
The poll, which was conducted in part before neurosurgeon Ben Carson dropped out of the GOP presidential race, also suggests that Cruz, Rubio and Kasich will pick up nearly equal parts of Carson's support, based on those voters' second choice picks in the poll.
Trump's hold on first place appears firm, with the Republican front-runner carrying nearly every demographic in the poll, as he has in several of his landslide primary victories.
Cruz, however, does top Trump among voters who identify themselves as "very conservative," taking that group 43% to 30%.
Fifty-nine delegates are at stake in Michigan's Republican primary race.
On the Democratic side, Clinton appears poised to win most of the state's 147 delegates, with the NBC/Wall Street Journal poll giving Clinton a 17-point lead over Sanders.
Between March 1-3, the poll surveyed 546 likely Democratic primary voters for a margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percentage points and 482 likely Republican voters for a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
